About
A little preparation makes the road ahead easier to understand.
What you can do here
Maps, Traffic and Driving Directions brings a driving route planner and practical map-reading guides together. On the homepage, you can look up places, choose a starting point and destination, add stops, and review a route with estimated distance, travel time and written directions. Our state and city articles help you understand the geography around a journey before you leave.
The website is available at mapsdirections-driving.com. It is intended for everyday trip preparation: comparing the shape of a route, identifying an arrival area, and thinking through the next part of a drive. You do not need an account to use the tools or read the guides.
How the map works
Our interactive map uses Leaflet with OpenStreetMap tiles. Address searches use Photon, and driving routes use OSRM. Those services supply the underlying geographic information; the site presents their results in a route-planning interface. Route estimates can differ from current road conditions and are not a live traffic forecast.
The guides explain mapping concepts and features, including MapQuest-related topics. We also offer independent fuel-cost and mileage calculators. These calculators use the figures you enter; they do not retrieve your vehicle records or guarantee actual journey costs.
Independent information
This is an independent website. It is not owned, operated, sponsored or endorsed by MapQuest. MapQuest and other third-party names belong to their respective owners. References to those names identify the services discussed in our articles.
Our aim is to make each guide useful for its specific destination or task. Product features and local conditions can change. Where an article cites an official source, consult that source for the current service details. A guide should support your planning, while road signs, restrictions and conditions determine what is safe and permitted on the day.
